Vernon, where we docked to bus to Giverny, for a small town, was quite the mix of somewhat modern, as modern as it gets, and the ancient. The streets were SO narrow! And the layout of the town showed no rhyme or reason. When a new, relatively, structure was put in, it was put almost on top of something else, as you will see in the picture below.
This is a portion of the ancient wall which was first built in the 1200's!!
Do you think the - sign might mean you shouldn't enter. It looks as if it might be a one-way street!
These show the ancient bridge supports that have been there for centuries. This was a dividing line for those in Normandy, Napoleon, who wanted to overthrow Louis XIV. If I am wrong, please correct me. Look at the Bridge Keepers house, there is also a close up. Even restored, it looks like it might collapse at any time! Then there was the fortress behind which had a lookout for ships that may be coming up the river.
This is the Viking Spirit we were traveling on, in wonderful comfort, I might add. It was great!
Yes, this is the layout! Where was the zoning commission?
